Ideal base for visitors to the region
Tigers Den is located in Waikawa Bay just 2km from picturesque Picton situated at the head of the Queen Charlotte Sound. Picton is the largest town in the Marlborough Sounds where the inter-island ferry arrives and departs daily between the North and South Island to New Zealand's capital city, Wellington.
Picton is a popular tourism destination and is the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds. Nestled on an attractive foreshore, Picton offers enjoyable activities ranging from fishing, dolphin and seal watching to award winning Eco tours, mountain biking, kayaking and guided and freedom walks. Picton township offers a good selection of arts, crafts and souvenirs, waterfront cafes and superb restaurants.

The Marlborough Sounds encompasses twenty percent of New Zealand's coastline and consists of three sounds - the Queen Charlotte Sound, the Keneperu Sound and the Perlorus Sound. The beautiful waters of Queen Charlotte Sound offer all kinds of water sports and activities. Explore the private bays and coves or spend time experiencing the natural shoreline. Launches, yachts, powerboats and sea kayaks can be chartered or hired and fishing, diving and scenic trips are available.
Blenheim, the closest city, is 20km from Picton and situated on the Wairau Plains. Blenheim is New Zealand’s largest planted area of grapes and definitely worth a trip to many of its wineries to sample award winning wines.
Travel down the east coast to Kaikoura. Whale watching tours dominate the local industry and in addition to whales you will see dolphins, albatross and seals. Kaikoura is also famous for its crayfish and sampling the fresh seafood is a must for any visitor.
